The space

Small, warm and properly peaceful

Shere Retreat is a cosy open-plan annexe in the grounds of our house, reached through the garden. Downstairs is a vaulted living space with a sofa, a big screen with all the streaming apps, and a kitchenette. Upstairs, a mezzanine holds a king-size bed under the roof.

It suits couples and solo travellers who want a quiet few days: a long walk, a good lunch, a film from the projector in the evening.

Shere is one of Surrey's prettiest villages, known for its countryside and as a backdrop to the film The Holiday. The annexe is quiet and central, a short, pretty walk from the village, and it backs onto fields where you may see sheep or cows, depending on the time of year.
